Step 3When the Cord Stick® needle enters the umbilical vein, immediately press the plunger tray forward with thumb until it stops. This engages the internal needles with the specimen tubes. Observe blood filling the specimen tubes. In 5 to 6 seconds the tubes will be adequately filled. Do not fill completely. Carefully remove Cord Stick® needle from cord. The small remaining vacuum will empty the needles and manifold reducing splash contamination.
