Ergonomics
Ergonomics is the study of how to design machines to fit the human body and how to maximize human efficiency and safety. We have tried to use what we know about human anatomy to design a safe tool.
The Cord Stick® Multiple Draw System has been specifically engineered for safety. The width and length of the barrel opening actually limits the depth of accidental penetration. This design is founded on the length of the human distal and middle phalanges and principles of arc rotation. If you should inadvertently roll your finger into the opening of the Cord Stick® barrel, it is unlikely that you would suffer a needle stick injury.
The photo diagram shows that if you place your finger over the open end of the barrel and rotate the finger inward, you cannot reach the specimen needles attached to the locked needle manifold.
However, care should be taken not to purposefully stick your finger directly into the open end of a Cord Stick® device, since you would likely suffer a needle stick injury if you do so.
