Friction Ribs
The Cord Stick® Multiple Draw System was developed using computers and rapid prototyping methods. The process converts computer designs into plastic models relatively inexpensively. This allows for multiple refinements at a fraction of the cost encountered with classical tooling methods.
During prototype evaluation, we learned that we needed to include a feature that would insure that the plunger tray would remain inside the barrel during shipping and delivery onto the operating table.
Friction ribs were placed on the bottom of the tray and on both the top and bottom of each barrel half (to aid in assembly). During assembly, the tray is loaded with sample tubes and then inserted into the open end of the closed barrel. The friction ribs create an area of resistance that requires positive action to overcome, both on tray insertion and on tray removal. The tray will not accidentally fall out of the barrel even if dropped.
