Stop Walls

The Cord Stick^® Multiple Draw System is designed to serve as a sharps protection unit. After the Vacutainer® Plus sample tubes are filled, the plunger tray and tubes are pulled from the barrel. The friction between the internal sample needles and the rubber stoppers of the sample tubes is greater than the friction between the barrel and needle manifold. Therefore, the needle manifold follows the tray out of the barrel until the top and bottom stop walls inside the barrel are encountered. The manifold will not pass beyond this point. Continued traction on the tray disengages the sample needles from the sample tube stoppers, completes removal of the tray and tubes from the barrel housing, and leaves the contaminated needles forever locked inside the barrel.
